Drakes Creek Middle School Reviews

This school is below average because they do not listen to the children. They children do not seem to matter to them as long as they get there work out of them.

DCMS is a wonderful school. Discipline and academics are the top priority, and teachers have high expectations. Mr. Hutchison is a fair and caring principal, and always willing to talk with parents and understand their concerns. The 7th-grade teachers are fantastic!

DCMS is one of the greatest schools in the District. I am a student and it's my 2nd year there. The Principal and Assistant principals take discipline very seriously. They also take our grades seriously too. I am very happy with my school and loving it.

We moved my son to DCMS because he was feeling out of place and unchallenged by the material at his previous school. We have been very happy with the environment at DCMS. The school values its academically successful students as well as those who excel in sports. I have found the teachers to be readily accessible through email and genuinely interested in my son and in working through any problems he is having. My son both likes and respects his teachers and fellow students. I have had one occasion to meet with Mr. Hutchison (principal) and he took the time to thoroughly discuss the situation with me and seemed both engaged and informed. I feel that the 'over-emphasis' on testing that has been mentioned is a symptom of the No Child Left Behind Act and probably exists at most schools in the US. I recommend DCMS with no reservations.

We moved here specifically to place our son at DCMS. The pre-enrollment interview was great. We had a bullying issue early in the year and all of the teachers and principals met with me in one group session and the problem was resolved. If you use the email available, you can check in with the teachers at any time. Teachers are happy to correspond with you and are prompt with their responses. We are very happy with DCMS and would recommend this school very highly.

Staff not concerned with the student's future academic success. The school's main concern is test scores, the student's emotional and academic well being are not critical to staff. The music and band teachers are outstanding.

My son is in his second year here and I have nothing good to say about this school. The teachers act as though they could care less. My son was failing and no one seemed to care at all, let alone offer any help!

My daughter is in her second year at Drakes Creek. The communication between teachers and parents as well as students is poor. My daughter was out of school for a week due to illness. This was excused with a Doctor's statement. All of the make-up work for this time-frame was turned in timely, but she has only received 1/2 credit or no credit for her work. I have left messages and sent notes to teachers to discuss their policy on make-up work but I cannot seem to get a response. My daugthers states that everytime she tries to discuss her work with her teachers, many of them never have time to speak with her. She is very frustrated as well as me and feels she is working extra hard for nothing.

Academics in Drakes Creek are going way too slow for my child's capability. My child is having a hard time because she has learned the material taught at Drakes Creek in 3rd grade. Honestly, I don't think the school is teaching their kids material quite on their level.

I feel that Drakes Creek School is a good school academically, but they do not follow their discipline policy fairly for all students and are not going by the proper written guidelines. The assistant principal makes the rules as she sees fit. If any other people are having these issues please care enough about your child to address it. As far as every thing else sports, academics, etc. things seem good, but children who sometimes talk should not be on the same level of punishment as others who are doing much worse and far more serious acts of crimes in the school systems.

I now have my second child at Drakes Creek, and the school has been great for both of them. The academics are excellent. The state assessment scores back that up. The school has excellent choir and band programs, and the art teacher was Kentucky's 2004 art teacher of the year. Several sports opportunities are available for both boys and girls. Parents are welcome, and communication is good.
