AccorHotels today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire 21C Museum Hotels, an award-winning hotel management company that is pushing the boundaries of museum hotels around the world to create a new type of travel experience. The agreement will enable 21c Museum Hotels to leverage Accor's leading global hotel platform while retaining its expertise in managing museums and hotels.

Together we have the opportunity to grow the 21C brand, launch MGallery to the North American market, enhance brand equity and expand the full range of unparalleled experiences for our guests. David Lee, AccorHotels "Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, will continue to hold a 15% stake in the company and will remain responsible for the unique combination of art, design and hospitality that is the 21C experience.

The song "Holiday Inn" was composed by Elton John and Bernie Taupin and was released on the "Velvet Gloves and Spit" album of 1968. Neil Diamond composed the song Holiday Inn, "Blues," which was released in the Madman on Water album in 1971. The song Holiday Inn "Blues" (released as Velvet Gloves & Spit album, 1968) was composed by Neilson.

The name "Holiday Inn" was coined in the 1950s as a joke by Wilson's architect Eddie Bluestein from the name of a Christmas movie of the same name starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.

An injunction in 1973 meant that the Myrtle Beach Hotel was granted the right to use the name in its own name for the rest of its life. However, at the end of the 1990s, the process of simultaneous use continued with the addition of the "Holiday Inn," which continues to operate as the Holiday Inn, although it must use a distinctly different font. The relaunch is focused on consistently delivering the best, including levels of class, service and physical quality, as well as a redesigned welcome experience.

In 1953, the company built its first hotel covering the road to Memphis, followed by the next three hotels in New Orleans, New York City and Chicago.

The purchase price for the 85% interest was $51 million, which included a possible compensation payment. The acquisition of Trailways in 1968 continued until the Holiday Inn sold it to Accor for $1.5 million in 1969, and today it is worth about $2.2 million.
